Dr. Ammar Jawdat

Hi I’m Dr. Jawdat!

I recently joined Parkwest Pet Clinic in April of this year, 2024.

I was working in Northern Virginia, USA, for 3 years prior to me coming back to Edmonton, where my family stayed. I graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 1990 in Mosul, Iraq.

I mostly did large animal medicine and surgical procedures, and decided in 1999 that I wanted to come to Canada and explore small animal medicine.

My main goal as a veterinarian is to help treat and advocate for sick animals, and guide pet parents on how to give the best quality of life to their beloved pets. It gives me great joy to see the pet throughout their lives, watch them grow from young, all the way to their elderly age.

I have special interest in urgent care cases, and all kinds of surgical procedures such as dental surgery, soft tissue surgery, spaying and neutering, foreign bodies and more!

I chose Parkwest because the team is lovely, knowledgeable and very supportive.

My one piece of advice for any pet parent is “It is important to maintain a healthy body weight in your pet, because being overweight, same as humans, can cause an array of health problems that are very preventable. It will keep your pet around for longer, which of course, we all want!”

In my personal time, I enjoy playing in a soccer league weekly and traveling as often as I can. My favorite places that I have been with my family are Spain and Turkey. I highly recommend if you have the time to go visit!

I use to have cats growing up, but currently do not have a pet to love at home. This is why it brings me such joy to be able to dedicate my time and expertise to see your pet and provide the medical care you need to give them the best live they can have.
