A tailored vaccination program can help you protect your dog from infections.
The first line of defence in protecting your dog’s health is getting them vaccinated. This is an ongoing process from when they’re tiny little pups to big, strong protectors. Vaccines shield your puppy from viruses and illnesses, including hepatitis and rabies. It’s important to stay up-to-date with your dog’s vaccine appointments. To learn more about the vaccines we provide and if your dog is ready for them, call us at 780-444-1324.
We suggest that periodic vaccinations should be a part of your puppy’s schedule during the first few months of their life. We usually administer a combination of vaccines approximately once a month between the ages of two months and four months. Afterwards, they are given a vaccine annually. However, if your dog is older than four months and has not been vaccinated, our veterinarians are prepared. We will use a different protocol that requires two vaccinations every three weeks and then annual vaccinations.
There are two types of vaccines your dog will receive; core and non-core. Core vaccines protect your pet from developing common medical problems, like canine distemper, rabies and hepatitis. These conditions can become serious illnesses that require prolonged treatment. Non-core vaccines are administered according to your dog’s environment. They shield their immune system from common bacteria, parasites and diseases they may encountered in their daily routine. For example, a hunting dog will usually have a different set of optional vaccines compared with an assistance dog.
